Show Off is a 90+ page editorial publication that explores the world of cardistry through original photography, instructional layouts, and visual storytelling. Created for beginners and enthusiasts alike, the book celebrates the craft, culture, and artistry behind an often-overlooked hobby while demonstrating how print design can capture movement, rhythm, and personality.
Every niche has a story worth telling. Before readers learn a single flourish, they first discover what cardistry is, where it came from, and why it has become an artistic medium in its own right. The opening chapter establishes the visual language of the book while introducing readers to a community built around creativity, precision, and movement.
To a cardist, the deck of playing cards is an integral part of the performance. This section of the book shifts from history to design, exploring how typography, illustration, color, texture, and packaging transform an everyday object into something almost sacred. Photography becomes the primary storyteller here, allowing each deck's personality to take center stage.
The heart of the project explores the techniques behind cardistry itself. Rather than creating a traditional instructional manual, the layouts were designed to make readers feel the rhythm of movement through pacing, composition, and scale. Large typography, dramatic crops, and carefully sequenced photography work together to suggest motion on a static page.

For me, designing “Show Off” was an exploration of how editorial design can communicate movement, rhythm, and personality without relying on animation. Every decision, from photography to typography to the pacing of each section and line, was made with one goal in mind: make the readers feel the same sense of excitement that goes hand in hand with cardistry itself.
